International Year of the Family +10

The year 2004 marked the 10th anniversary of the International Year of the Family, which the United Nations had celebrated in 1994. The General Assembly celebration on December 6, 2004 was preceded by numerous regional and local events and meetings, most notably the Doha Process, including the Doha Declaration, and the African Plan of Action on the Family.  The December 6 event included a number of memorable speeches by various representatives declaring the timeless relevance and irreplaceable role of the natural family, and the urgent need to protect and preserve it.
